Power generators can either receive STCs or LGCs depending on how much electricity their new system generates. Once businesses gain the certificates, they can sell them back to energy retailers for a profit.

LGCs are purchased by businesses or public sector organisations with renewable energy obligations under the Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme. By purchasing LGCs, these businesses fulfil their obligations to obtain a certain amount of electricity from renewable sources.

The primary difference between LGCs and STCs is the size of the installation. The government offers LGCs for large-scale renewable energy projects, whereas STCs are reserved for small-scale solutions. In addition, LGCs rely on actual data readings. In contrast, STCs are created based on the expected energy generation of a small-scale renewable power solution.
